Coming to the Microsoft Store

StegoPixel is in pre-release and has not been published yet. When it ships, the Microsoft Store will be the distribution channel — which means Windows handles the installation, the signing and the updates for you.

What the Store version gives you

  • A signed, validated package. Windows verifies the package before it installs, which is the practical reason to prefer a store listing over a file downloaded from a search result.
  • Updates handled by Windows. There is no separate updater process and no need to check a website for a new version — the Store keeps it current.
  • Install and uninstall like any other app. It appears in Settings → Apps, installs per-user, and needs no administrator rights.
  • Nothing else to install first. Everything the app needs ships inside the package, so it works on a clean machine.

How you will know it is genuinely live

A pre-release product is an obvious target for lookalike downloads, so it is worth being concrete about this.

  • This page will carry the Store link, and it will point at a apps.microsoft.com or ms-windows-store: address — not a file host.
  • The Store listing is the only distribution channel. StegoPixel is not being released as a standalone installer download from this site.
  • Search the Store directly. Once published, searching for “StegoPixel” in the Microsoft Store app will find it, with the publisher name matching the listing.
If you find a download somewhere else, treat it as suspect

Until this page shows a Store link, there is no legitimate download of StegoPixel. A tool whose purpose is inspecting files other people sent you is exactly the kind of tool worth impersonating, so the caution is not theoretical.

While you wait

The product is finished enough that its behaviour can be described precisely, so the useful thing to do now is find out whether it does what you need:

Pricing and licensing are not decided yet

Rather than guess on a page that will be read as a commitment, the terms will be stated here when they are final. The project status section lists this among the things still being finished.
